Not literally, but their upcoming league games are just as important.

That’s the view of manager Ryan Watson, who is readying his troops for the climax of the Championship Two season.

They host Moyola Park at Crystal Park on Saturday (kick-off 3pm) before making a trip to Dundela and returning home to host Dollingstown.

Town currently sit fourth in Championship Two but they’re still just five points clear of 10th place, which potentially faces the drop along with the bottom four.

The locals have played more games than most in the tightly-packed division and Watson knows a couple of winless weeks could be catastrophic.

“We just want to get ourselves safe as soon as possible,” he said. “It’s going to run to the wire but if we can get a few wins over the next few weeks, it will make a huge difference to us.

“We have three matches coming up against teams sitting just behind us. They are three cup finals for us.

“There isn’t much separating that big group of teams in the middle of the table.”

Up until their defeat to Tobermore last time out, Town had been beaten just once in their last 12 outings. After such a good run, you could have been forgiven for thinking Town were out of the woods.

“I’ve never thought like that anyway, even after our good run,” said boss Watson, who knows that danger still lurks.

“It only got us away out of the bottom section but there was never much of a gap created at all.”

And with three games coming up against teams in the middle of the pack, Watson knows positive results have scarcely been more important.

He said: “We won’t be taking our foot off the pedal and the boys will be made aware of that. We need a positive result on Saturday to get back on track.

“If everybody brings their A game and works hard in training and during the match, there’s no reason why we can’t go on another run now.”
