Town are entertainers but boss keen to stamp out errors

There has been as many as 37 goals in their eight league games so far this term, not bad value for money for supporters.

However, with 20 of those going in through the wrong end, mnager Ryan Watson isfar from happy with the blood-pressure-raising nature to his side’s season so far.

“That’s something we’ve got to work on,” he said. “It’s great when the goals are going for you but not so much at the other end of the pitch.

“It’s not as if the teams are playing good football to get through us. We’re making individual errors.

“We have plenty of quality players who are scoring goals so it can be frustrating when we’re letting goals in at the other end. It’s something we need to work on.”

On Saturday, Town were involved in a typical six goal thriller but, conceding four, Watson says his side were outbattled by an increasingly physical Sport and Leisure Swifts.

“It was very disappointing to be honest,” he said.

“We went into the game on the back of two good results but it’s a difficult place to go up there.

“We knew we would be tested because they’re a big physical side and we knew we’d have to grind out a result.

“In the first half, we did fairly well with the wind at our backs and we restricted them to a few chances.

“We made one defensive errors a few minutes after we scored our first and they scored, which was a bit of a kick in the stomach for us.

“We responded well, as we have been doing and could have been further ahead at half-time.

“We knew they would come at us in the second half and unfortunately we just couldn’t deal with it. It was hard going and on the second half, we didn’t deserve anything from the game.

“It just shows that on days like that, sometimes you have to change the way you play and match the other team but they’re so strong and we just didn’t have the physicality to deal with it.

“Unfortunately, we had to bring off both Neil Watson and Matthew McCartan with injuries and it showed when we had to bring on other guys who don’t have quite as much of the physical element to their game.”

Town are yet to beat S&L side the Belfast side’s promotion to Championship Two.
