Steele out to make his mark for NI

Larne’s Jonny Steele says he’s determined to make his mark on the international stage if he gets his big chance against Turkey on Friday night.

“For me it’s only the start, getting your face in,” he told media in Adana.

“The big picture is the Euro 2016 campaign next year.

“Playing for your country is an honour and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do and if I get that opportunity I’m going to be hungrier than I’ve ever been.”

Last Friday the 27-year-old New York Red Bulls man was called up to Michael O’Neill’s squad for the friendly. The left-sided midfielder’s chances of a starting berth may just have been boosted by Shane Ferguson’s withdrawal from the panel on Wednesday.

Steele, who has had spells at Wolves, Ballymena United and another MLS side, Real Salt Lake, has been handed the number 17 shirt for tomorrow’s clash.
