Slane First team travelled to Wilbourne Park, Islandmagee at the weekend to lock horns with the Amateur Premiere league side in Round Two of the Coca Cola Intermediate Cup and claimed their biggest scalp in years.

Slane started brightly taking the game to the home side who underestimated the Mid-Ulster side and they paid the price as early as the 10th minute.

Whitten played the ball wide to Stevie Adair and the young seventeen year old shrugged off his marker and hammered his effort low in to the bottom corner of the net much to the delight of the travelling supporters.

Adam Rowland again stood strong in this massive fixture and he was commanding his area well and made a good save low to his right as the Amateur league side upped the tempo.

With minutes till half time Slane were awarded a free kick, David Boyd floated it in to the back post and Andy Moore headed home with power and precision to put Slane in a commanding lead and very much deserved on the first half performance.

Jordan Fairley replaced the injured Stevie Adair at half time and he was using his speed up the flank tormenting the home defence.

Five minutes in and the home side were awarded a penalty after Ervine was adjudged to have up ended the striker unfairly in the box and the big centre forward hammered it straight up the middle and past the diving Rowland to make it 2-1

On the hour Fairley himself had to come off injured and Kyle Scott got his chance to show off his skills up front, he played the ball to McKee who unleashed a power driver that bounced off the crossbar.

McKee hit inches wide of the post and Bingham and Kerr also had efforts go the wrong side of the woodwork, Slane’s work rate was 110% as they chased down every ball and fired themselves into heavy tackles in their thirst to win the game.
