Six-y stuff as Amateurs go through in cup

DROMORE Amateurs marched into the Second Round of the Border Regiment Cup on Saturday with an emphatic 6-2 victory over fellow 1C side, Kilroot Rec.

Manager David Smylie was delighted to see his team rack up an impressive scoreline - and it could have been even higher if the Amateurs had taken all their chances.

But let’s not be too critical. The outcome of this match was done and dusted by half-time - Dromore were in full control and sitting pretty at 5-0.

In the second half, Kilroot showed real character to put up more of a challenge, scoring two goals and were denied a third by Amateurs keeper Neil Beggs, who saved a penalty.

But six goals by Dromore at Ferris Park is something to savour and the men who got their names on the scoresheet were Michael McGuinness, a double strike by Robert Coady and a fabulous hat-trick by midfielder Matty McConnell.

The Amateurs continue their Border Cup experience this Saturday with a home tie against Bloomfield. But before that, three points are up for grabs on Tuesday night when Bangor Swifts come to Ferris Park for a league match. Kick off is 6.30pm.
