Six-y display earns Town a dramatic come-back victory

However, that’s exactly what they did as they went on to achieve a memorable 6-4 victory at Ballymacoss in the opening round of the Lisburn League Cup.

It is hard to know where to begin as this game had absolutely everything, with ten goals scored, including four penalties.

The Town got off to the worst possible start after two minutes when Leckey in goal had his clearance blocked down and the ball ricocheted into the empty net.

Only minutes later a shot was spilled from his arms and the Lisburn striker was on hand to put Distillery two up.

But the hallmark of this team has been that they never know when they are beaten.

McKibbon and Fearon both went close, before Byrne got in behind the defence and had his jersey pulled for a clear cut penalty. McAtamney stepped up and coolly made the game 2-1.

On the 20 minute mark, McKibbon levelled, forcing the ball home from a dangerous free-kick on the right.

Houston then put the Town 3-2 up stabbing the ball home from close range to the delight of the Juniors.

Distillery managed to equalise when the dangerous centre forward was upended in the box and the resulting penalty was slotted home on the stroke of half time.

Distillery came out of the blocks on fire and went in front once again, when a delightful cross was headed home from close range.

Not to be outdone, Fearon, who tormented the defence all day, was upended in the box and once again McAtamney netted to level at 4-4.

Minutes later Fearon repeated his lung busting run and won another penalty. McAtamney duly delivered once again to complete his hat-trick of penalty kicks and put the Town 5-4 up with ten minutes remaining.

With only seconds on the clock, Fearon broke through one on one with the keeper and finished with class to seal the game 6-4.

What a game this was and manager Fred Scappaticci was absolutely delighted with the resilience and never say die attitude of all eleven players who simply never roll over against any team.

Next up is another must win game against title rivals Midway at Havelock Park opn Saturday (kick-off 9.30am).
