Scarva hit for six after a hard day against league leaders Rectory Rangers

Strugglers Scarva Rangers suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat at the hands of Mid Ulster League Division Two league leaders Rectory Rangers on Saturday.

Rectory are sitting pretty, now with a nine point gap at the top of the table so, understandably, this was always expected to be a tough assignment for the village side.

And so it proved.

They dealt admirably with the threat posed by the hosts in the opening 45 minutes.

A resilient Scarva display ensured the pre-match favourites led by just a single goal when the half-time whistle sounded.

Scarva’s best attacking moment in that first half was a long range effort by Alex Hammond but it was saved by the Rectory keeper.

Perhaps their first half exertions caught up with the visitors after the break and if tiring legs were partly to blame, Rectory took full advantage, scoring five times to run out emphatic winners.

Scarva came closest to finding the target when a Rod Douglas effort crashed against the home side’s post.

Best for Scarva Rangers were Rod Douglas and Gregory Douglas.
