Scarva crash out of Marshall Cup after defeat

Scarva Rangers made their exit from the Marshall Cup on Saturday following a 3-0 defeat in the second round of the competition.

The draw for the second round handed them a tough assignment away to Intermediate B side Lurgan Town but for the opening 45 minutes Scarva coped comfortably with the challenge.

The home side twice struck the Rangers woodwork but they didn’t have it all their own way against a Scarva side playing with energy and enterprise.

Kyle Foster tested the home goalkeeper with a couple of well struck shots but it was both defences who came out on top, with the half finishing goalless.

Lurgan Town’s superiority showed in a one-sided second half that yielded three goals for the hosts, with Rangers wilting as the game wore on.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Kyle Foster who put the ball in the net, only for it to be chalked off for offside and then later in the tie unleashed a shot that crashed against the bar.

Best for Scarva Rangers was Wes Baird.
