Ryan is keen to avoid any Valentine’s Day cards in Intermediate Cup clash

It might be Valentine’s Day on Saturday but Banbridge Town boss Ryan Watson is adamant that he doesn’t want any more cards from his players.

The side’s disciplinary woes continued last weekend when Mark Teggart was the man to be issued with a red card for two poor first half challenges.

It left his team-mates as lambs to the slaughter with Moyola securing an easy win and was the second match in a row that Town have ended with just ten players on the pitch.

“It’s something we have to work on and get out of our system because we can’t have it and I won’t stand for it,” said Watson.

“I didn’t think it was an issue but it’s happened the past couple of weeks now.

“We can’t afford those sort of things, especially away to a team challenging for promotion. It’s difficult enough going to place like that without being down to ten men. We need 11 players on the pitch.”

Town had gone 1-0 up within the first minute and were more than a match for their high-flying opponents at 2-2 when Teggart got his marching orders shortly before half-time.

“It was disappointing because up until the sending off, we were as good as them, if not better,” said Watson.

“On Saturday, the challenges were rash. The second one in particular was a rush of blood to the head but Mark knows that himself. He doesn’t need me to tell him.”

Watson, meanwhile, was at least pleased with his side’s performance in the defeat and is holding out hope of better days to come as the season draws ever closer to its climax.

“I’m taking a lot of positives out of the match. The result certainly didn’t reflect our performance,” he said.

“It’s very disappointing for all the players but that’s football. We still showed enough signs that we will be ok. We just have to regroup and get ready to go again on Saturday.”
