Rathfriland began the sharper of the two teams, but against the run of play Annagh’s striker opened the scoring.

Rathfriland regrouped and soon equalised as Stevie Stewart scored his second goal in as many weeks.

Costello was causing havoc on the counter attack and scored twice before half time but Annagh continued to pressure the home side and wouldn’t give up easily.

The second half was as intense as the first with Rathfriland keen to keep their two goal advantage and this was soon helped as Costello completed his hat trick. The final 20 minutes of the match were made harder for Rathfriland as the defence as caught napping and allowed Annagh to walk in a second. More pressure was added when Andrew Stewart got injured after all substitutes had already been used which left Rathfriland with only 10 men.

They managed to hold on to the end even though Annagh scrambled a third.
