Reserves fail to end losing streak

SCARVA Rangers Reserves travelled to Richhill on Saturday determined to bring their losing streak to an end but they returned home in disappointment.

Neither of the two clubs’ first teams were in action so it was two strong sides that lined out for this Reserve Division Three clash.

Scarva made a promising start, landing the first decisive blow of the match after around 20 minutes.

The goal was scored by striker Dean McCammon, who capitalised on a defence splitting pass and fired clinically past the helpless Richhill goalkeeper.

The visitors had a series of corners but couldn’t add to their slender advantage and the hosts levelled matters with a headed goal to leave the game delicately poised at the interval.

Scarva enjoyed plenty of possession in the second half but could create few clear cut opportunities.

Ryan Dodds fired a dangerous cross into the heart of the Richhill area but no one could apply the finishing touch.

Greg Douglas was felled as he raced through on goal and Scarva were aggrieved the punishment was a yellow card instead of a red one. The resulting free kick failed to trouble the home keeper.

Richhill struck a second goal with 20 minutes to go and copper fastened their grip on the three points with a third goal in the dying minutes as Rangers searched frantically for an equaliser.

Best for Scarva Rangers Reserves – Derek Patton was the visiting team’s outstanding performer and Noel Hamilton also impressed when he returned to action from the bench after a recent injury lay off.
