Rathfriland U12s see off Glenavon at High School

Rathfriland U12s hosted Glenavon in atrocious conditions at the High School 3G on Saturday and came away with a hard earned victory.

It really did not look like it was going to be Rathfriland’s day when a Rhys McKee shot pinged off the post into Bronte’s path only for his strike to crash off the bar and out.

Minutes later, though they scored with a stunning team move. Ethan Hamilton intercepted a Glenavon through ball and rolled it out to Conor McCumiskey on the left. He picked out Johnston who played a one two with Ingram to split the Blues defence a fire home a wonderful left footed opener.

It was Johnston who was on hand again just before the break to finish off a similar move on the right started by Fitzsimmons and McKee.

The second half was a more even affair with Glenavon having two or three shots that were well dealt with by Liam Tumilty in Rathfriland’s goal. He was unable to keep out a penalty but Rathfriland held on to win.
