Rangers show their mettle in new division hanging on with ten men

Scarva Rangers 0

Ambassadors 0

The big question facing Scarva Rangers when the new season kicked off was how they would manage the transition to life in Division One.

After three games against three of the toughest opponents the division has to offer, the answer is that the local side aren’t remotely overawed by their new surroundings.

They have the quality needed not only to survive but to flourish at this level.

The new boys showed enormous character on Saturday to clinch a point despite playing more than half the match with ten men.

As the final scoreline suggests, this was a closely contested match, with few clear cut chances for either side.

Ambassadors won a first half penalty, a decision the home side couldn’t comprehend, but Scarva keeper Ritchie McGivern made a magnificent save to deny the visitors a lead.

The match official reduced the hosts to ten men before the half time interval but this Scarva side showed steely purpose in adversity and worked tirelessly to earn a point and continue their unbeaten start to the league campaign.

Best for Scarva Rangers – Ritchie McGivern, Rod Douglas and Neil Sinton.
