Rangers search for new boss as Thornton quits

BANBRIDGE Rangers have begun the search for a new manager following the shock resignation of First Team boss Dan Thornton.

A club statement on their Facebook page said that he had informed the club’s committee and his players last night that he was resigning with immediate effect.

A founder member of the club, spending time since Rangers’ formation in 2005 as a player and committee member, Thornton became the club’s Reserve team manager in 2008.

But at the start of last season he became the club’s manager, leading them to promotion to Mid Ulster Intermediate A and retaining the Alan Wilson Cup.

And although they haven’t won a game in normal time since August they have maintained a healthy interest in the cup competitions, progressing to the third round of the Marshall Cup with the Intermediate Cup set to begin on Saturday.

The club’s statement on Facebook concluded, “The committee would like to extend their thanks to Dan for his committment to the role and hope he is able to continue working within the club in some capacity.”

And a comment added to the thread later from the club’s account added, “The committee will assess their options and appoint a successor in the next few weeks.”
