Rangers Reserves come out on top in derby

BANBRIDGE TOWN RESERVES 1

RANGERS RESERVES 3

Rathfriland Rangers Reserves played Banbridge Town Reserves in a Reserve Championship derby fixture on friday evening.

In the early stages rathfriland could have taken the lead with Scott Ward going close but they took the lead when Andrew McClarity rounded the ‘keeper to slot the ball home.

Mark Gracey pulled off two fine saves for Rathfriland while at the other the Town ‘keeper kept them in it.

In the early stages of the second half the number seven for Town danced his way through before being hauled down, giving them a penalty which was duly converted to level the scores.

Rathfriland continued to press with the young fullbacks of Jordan Marks and Stephen Brady having great games in defence and going forward. They stretched their lead when McClarity got his second with a low shot and then made it 3 - 1 from the penalty spot to claim his hat trick..

Banbridge never gave up and could have pulled a goal back through dead ball situations although the visitors went close through Alan Ervine and also missed a further penalty.

Overall a good game for Rathfriland who with the mixture of experience and youth played well on the night and fully deserved their win.

Team Mark Gracey, Jordan Marks, Stephen Brady, Gordon Johnston, Brian Magennis, Scott Ward, Neill McCracken, Andrew Stewart, Andrew McLarity, David Hollingsworth, Philip Johnston.
