Philip leads U11s to victory

UNDER bright blue skies the game kicked off with Dromore facing a more organised Banbridge Rangers team.

Dromore played a new back three with Matthew Briggs slotting in at left back.

The first half was very even, with Dromore passing the ball about well but not being able to make the telling pass. The nearest they came to a goal was when a good shot from the right by Dromore was nearly turned into their own goal buy one of their own defenders. Ben was playing up front and Matthew Magill down the right wing. Josh had to save some long range efforts, but Nathan, Morgan and Matthew Briggs held firm.

Second half was different Dromore were no longer playing into the sun and they attacked straight from kick-off. Euan was playing some amazing weighted balls to Adam who had switched wings to play on the left.

But it was once again Morgan who broke the deadlock, drifting in from the right again and passing two players, arrived in the centre of the goal and from outside the area he hit a low shot, which beat the keeper.

Shortly after Philip and Euan combined and found Adam who copied Morgan, drifting in from the left to score with his right foot whilst under pressure from two Rangers players to bag his ninth goal of the season.

The next efforts came from Matthew Magill who was shooting on sight, but without success.

Then Ben caught a great corner ball on the volley from Euan but that also went wide. It was then time for Dromore to do some great defending, tackle after tackle came in from Nathan, Morgan and Briggs, they were letting nothing past them and Josh held all shots so well.

Towards the end of the match, Magill set up Morgan who thought he would score his second but the keeper got down well and pushed the ball away, but Euan Sellwood was on to the ball in a flash and finished from a tight angle.

There was still time for Josh to make a spectacular save to keep his fifth clean sheet of the season.

Dave, one of the coaches, said afterwards that this was one of the best all round performances of the team this season and the passing was outstanding. Well done to Philip who captained the side for the month of October.
