Peacock steps down after latest defeat
“When I took on the job I always knew it was going to be tough,” said Chris. “When I started in the summer I thought I had 10 or 11 players instead I was left with two or three. I had to start looking for players without much incentive for them and worked hard to do the very best I could.
“We should have won on Saturday, Wakehurst were there for the taking but again we didn’t get the rub of the green. I lost my Captain Hugh Og Boyle on Saturday morning with appendicitis and I also lost Danny Brown, my best player earlier with glandular fever but despite that we still got a team out. Things got to breaking point for me and after the match I called the Committe together and explained the situation. I am very disappointed in myself and I feel I have let people down but it hasn’t worked out for me. I have put everything into the job and I have always put the club first and I wanted to ensure I left on right terms. “I have been doing this for a number of years and I know what’s expected of me as a manager but sometimes it gets to the point when enough is enough. I feel I have plenty still to offer but I’ll take time and assess things at a later stage.”
