The former BB midfielder died suddenly three years ago and Friday night’s success over Drummond, ensured the Waterside men secured their first trophy since his death in 2010.

“It was a big win for everyone at the club, as it’s our first trophy which we have won since Eddie has died,” admitted Olphert.

“If he was looking down on us then he would have enjoyed that performance and he knows we had a good party.”

The Waterside men raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to Eammon Donnelly and Joe McCready and Olphert admits he never looked back after that.

“We got off to the perfect start, with the two quick goals, which sort of killed them.

“After that our boys just gained in confidence and kept looking to score more, which we did.

“We have a good squad at the minute and hopefully this will be our first of many trophies this season.

“Everybody is working hard for each other and as a manager that’s all you can ask for. We play Drummond again this Saturday, then we play Newbuildings United Reserves, but every match to us is big.

“We are only taking one game at the time and that’s Drummond on Saturday. We know it’s going to be another tough match, because they’ll be looking to get their own back on us after Friday night.

“We’re unbeaten all season and there’s been a lot of hard work behind the scenes. We’ve a good balance in the team and I would pay particular tribute to 16-year-old Matthew Pierce who I thought was brilliant on Friday night.”
