Stephen Hendron halved the deficit with a strike of breathtaking quality. He was almost 30 yards from goal when he unleashed a low pile-driver that rocketed past the home keeper before he had time to react.

The Portadown side restored their two goal cushion with a shot dispatched from inside the Scarva penalty area.

Then there were chances at both ends, with Greg Douglas racing on to a William Morrison flick on but shooting just wide while a dangerous effort from the hosts struck the Scarva post and went out of play.

The final goal of the tie was scored by the visitors, with David Morton rising to meet Kyle Jennett’s pinpoint corner and heading the ball decisively into the net.

Try as they might, in the remaining minutes Rangers couldn’t find the third goal that would have sent the game into extra time.

Best for Scarva Rangers – Stephen Hendron.
