More misery for Scarva as William’s goal can’t help avoid a swift defeat

Their Mid-Ulster Division One fixture against Dungannon Rovers was played at Stangmore Park, the stadium of Dungannon Swifts.

The outing ended in a 4-1 defeat for the village outfit but midfielder William Morrison won’t forget playing at an Irish League ground in a hurry after scoring a simply stunning goal.

After a neat passage of play on Scarva’s right, the ball was passed to Morrison who struck an explosive shot from outside the Rovers penalty area that rocketed into the home side’s net.

Rovers had carved out a commanding 3-0 lead in the first half of Saturday’s encounter.

Alan Hammond made a smart save in the opening minutes and at the other end the home keeper saved well when Stephen Hendron flicked a Jennett free kick towards goal.

The hosts opened the scoring with a curling effort from the edge of the penalty area that found the top corner of the Scarva net.

They scored twice more before the interval, with the visitors convinced one of the goals should have been ruled out for offside.

Early in the second half, Kyle Jennett’s pass found Kris Heron and he passed to Adam Maginnis, who beat two players before sending his shot narrowly wide.

Midfielder Freddie McKelvey tracked superbly back and made a brilliant block to deny a Rovers player drifting in unmarked at the back post.

The hosts added a fourth before Morrison’s scintillating strike and Kyle Jennett forced a fine save from the Dungannon Rovers keeper with a well executed long range free kick late in the game.
