Moneyslane win derby as Scarva’s poor form goes on

SLANE’S first team were in league action at the weekend and travelled the short distance to play Scarva in a clash they needed the three points to keep the pressure on at the top of the league.

The visitors attacked from the first whistle and John Davenport unleashed a power driver that the Scarva keeper tipped over the bar.

Player manager Glen Moffett hit inches wide of the upright and again on the 10th minute the Scarva keeper somehow tipped a shot from Mark Ervine over the bar.

Thomas McCann and Davenport linked together and McCann stepped inside his marker and hit a powerful shot which the keeper saved.

The score was opened on the half hour when Neville Gibbons headed wide to Christopher McConville who crossed into the box with a pin point ball to Moffett who took it out of the air and lobbed the advancing keeper.

Slane were rampant in their approach to this game and were chasing everything and creating good chances and the work rate of the ball was exempt.

McCann and Ervine both hit over and again Moffett was getting his shots on target but the keeper was in outstanding form for Scarva who were under the cosh.

Boyd at left back for Slane received the ball and crossed to the back post where McConville cushioned it down and rattled over the bar with his shot. 

Slane were happy to see Gibbons on the line clear the ball and thwart the equaliser as the home side pelted the Slane goal from a corner.

Davenport hammered in a shot that was well saved.

McCann played the ball to Ervine who hit a power driver that the keeper could only palm out to the feet of Davenport who coolly slotted home to double Slane’s lead.

Moffett’s shot was parried by the keeper and Anderson hit just wide.

Feeney was on the pitch a matter of minutes when he picked up a through ball from Moffett and he coolly slammed the ball home for Slane’s third of the game.

O’Neill almost got his name on the score sheet but for another fine save at the death.

Overall a superb performance by Slane on the eve of the big derby with Rathfriland this Saturday and a good preparation for the derby. Best on the day was player manager Glen Moffett.
