Moneyslane drop points away to Broomhedge

MONEYSLANE’S first team travelled to Lisburn at the weekend to play Broomhedge in the League on a lovely sunny evening on a bumpy pitch that didn’t suit either team to play good football.

Slane started quickly and had the ball cleared off the line when a corner was swung into the box. Jonny O’Neill had his shot blocked and the rebound was fired back in by Mark Ervine but he watched the defender clear the danger from his goal bound effort off the line.

Lee Feeney skilfully controlled the ball and found Mark Ervine who whipped in a shot from outside the box and it whizzed just wide of the up right.

The home side had an effort on the tenth minute that Nigel Fry cushioned around the post and the corner was cleared at the back post by Robbie Weir.

The pitch was making it impossible for both teams to play good football on the ground with the bumpy surface causing havoc.

Slane opened the scoring on the quarter hour when Colin Brown latched onto a quick throw from Weir and he fired the ball dangerously across the box where Ervine hammered into the net.

Davenport found Feeney in space, he was quickly closed down but he eluded the tackle wide on the left and picked out Ervine with an inch perfect ball. He dinked one way then the other and eventually found the space to shoot but his effort went inches wide.

Adair found Ervine up the right and he played it inside for Adair who had his effort charged down.

Chris Loney and Thomas Lockhart combined in central midfield and the latter, Lockhart hit from distance but it sailed over the bar.

O’Neill and Boyd were solid in central defence for Slane dealing with everything fired at them and Davenport and Weir were working the flanks well from the width in defence. Weir had to be replaced by David Cromie after he picked up a knock to the knee.

Three minutes before the break Lockhart found Ervine who drilled in a fierce shot that was well held by the Hedge keeper.

Loney had an effort two minutes into the second half from 12 yards out that sailed over the top when he should have made the keeper work and Anderson also hit just wide.

The home side came more and more into the game as the second half went on causing problems with the long ball over the top of the Slane defence.

On the hour the game was all square when a flicked on clearance from the keeper was latched onto by the nippy striker who beat the advancing Fry to the ball and he coolly tucked the ball into the empty net.

Feeney, Loney, Anderson and Ervine all had chances but failed to hit the target as the game went on.

Ethan Scott made his debut for Slane and the young seventeen year old has a bright future for the Club as he slotted into midfield.

David Cromie was solid at the right back clearing the danger and passing well up the flanks.

Fry made an excellent save to prevent the home side taking all three points late on and the game finished all square much to the disappointment of the players and supporters.

Overall it was a case of points dropped by Slane who know they should have won this encounter but for missed chances. Best on the day for Slane was David Boyd at centre back.
