The Banbridge local was Brian Adair’s assistant at the Whites before taking the reigns himself for a brief three month period.

Banbridge Town boss Ryan Watson is hoping his introduction as coach will prove to have a positive impact on the pitch.

“Ian’s from Banbridge, I know him well and respect him and his football opinions so it’ll be great to have him on board,” he told the ‘LEADER.’

“He’ll be a big help to us on the coaching side of things. I’m looking forward to working with him and he’s excited to get started.”

McDowell completes Watson’s backroom staff, leaving the boss with just a few pieces of the jigsaw to complete on the pitch before the season begins.

He said: “Things are shaping up better than they were towards the end of the season. If we can get another one or two lads in that would be great but even if we don’t we’re in better shape than we were last season.”
