McCready bags treble

GRANSHA Institute started this Blue Riband Cup first round tie at a very high tempo and they managed to take the lead when John Curran played in Joe McCready after just four minutes to opening the scoring against HML.

All credit to HML as they managed to match Gransha Institute for long periods in the first half and they were unlucky not to on level terms as Doherty was unlucky to his shot come back off the post.

HML did manage to get back on level terms when Jackson saw his shot parried by the keeper and George Green followed up to score and level the game at 1-1.

The second half was only minutes old when Gransha Institute took the lead for the second time in the game as Curran again found McCready and he turned his marker before firing home to make it 2-1.

Gransha Institute then hit a purple patch and within a ten minute period they put the game to bed as on sixty three minutes great play from Curran and Coyle set up McCready to complete his hat-trick as the score was now 3-1.

Three minutes later it was 4-1 as a wicked cross from the right hand side saw a HML defender just rise in front of his keeper and the ball came off the top of his head and in to the top corner.

Soon after came the goal of the game as 16-year-old Ronan Doherty picked the ball up just inside the HML half and he skipped past no fewer than four defenders before shooting past the keeper to make it 5-1 and there was no route back in to the game for HML following that wonder goal.
