McCracken on hot streak

BANBRIDGE Rangers are going to have to invest in a fire extinguisher if Jordan McCraken keeps up his hot streak in front of goal for the U18s.

The young striker is on fire at the minute, having bagged seven goals in the U18s opening three games which are part of the Savage Cup group stages. Rangers needed only a draw to qualify for the quarter finals but saw off their Lisburn counterparts by 4-2 to make certain at Scarva Park on Saturday morning.

It took only 14 minutes for McCracken to open the scoring after being the recipient off some quick phase passing from the Rangers midfield and curled round the keeper with consummate ease.

The Lisburn side gradually came back into the game to make it an even contest and scored an equaliser ten minutes before the half to leave the teams level at the interval.

Banbridge Rangers knew that Lisburn would have to come at them in the second half which would suit counter attacking with Jordy McCracken beating the high line and latching onto to a ball over the top and finishing past the Lisburn keeper to put Rangers in the driving seat.

Lisburn Rangers drew level for the second time in the game on the hour mark converting from the penalty spot but fell behind again to the Banbridge side who edged in front again through Kyle Sergeant powering home a header at the back post from a McLarty corner kick.

Banbridge Rangers sealed the win and their qualification into the quarter finals when Andy McLarty got himself on the scoresheet blasting home from twelve yards out after some delightful skill and cross from the right hand side by Alex Cairns.

Best on the day for Rangers was Jeff Woods at centre half who is growing in stature every week with his consistent displays at the back.

This Saturday morning the U18s travel to Ballinamallard to start their league campaign in the Premier Section of the Mid Ulster Juvenile League.
