Lisburn League side in seventh heaven

TOWN Juniors U13s Lisburn League team demolished Hillsborough 7-1 on Saturday morning at the Rec playing fields in Lisburn.

Following a disappointing midweek 4-2 defeat against Donegal Celtic - with only eleven players, the management were expecting a much improved performance, and they weren’t disappointed.

Cormac Downey got the Juniors off to a fantastic start when he volleyed home a wonder strike following a cross from Moore. Moments later a great run and cross from Curtis Lee McKeever was deflected for an own goal, and from then on the Juniors never looked back.

Gavin Fearon got in on the act as usual - heading home a McKeever corner to make it three just before the break.

Jack Lennon got the Town off to another great start in the second half controlling Downey’s pass and finishing clinically after only seven minutes.

Hillsborough nicked a consolation goal when along range effort took a wicked bounce on the bumpy pitch and somehow finished up in the net.

Ryan Angus made it five shortly after with a great strike following a goal mouth scramble and Jamie McCandless made it six latching onto a great through ball and rounding the keeper before sliding the ball home.

Mark Burke got a deserved goal three minutes from time to round off the scoring, when he headed home McCandless’s free kick which had struck the crossbar.

This was a devastating performance from the Juniors and proved exactly what this team is capable of. If they can maintain this level of performance in the last five games they can still make the top four.

Special mention must go to Ryan Angus and Paul Morgan who sportingly stepped into nets to cover for their missing regular goalkeeper.

Next up for the Juniors is Lower Maze on Wednesday night with 6.30pm kixk-off.

Team: Ryan Devlin, David Houston, Harry Campbell, Curtis Lee McKeever, Paul Morgan, Jamie McCandless (Captain), Gavin Fearon, Jack Lennon, Cormac Downey, Mark Burke, Ryan Angus, Daniel Moore
