Lavery spot on in crucial home win

The Planters Park pitch was once again in pristine condition despite the very wet weather and the game was never in doubt.

Both teams started at a good tempo but neither keeper was really tested until on 20 minutes when Moyola keeper Marlon Farnioh got down well at the near post to stop Glen Hand opening the score. Then from the resulting corner Ritchie Thompson hit the bar.

Thompson’s pace was creating a tough afternoon for centre back Stephen Kelly and indeed on 36 minutes Thompson was brought down inside the area and Niall Lavery converted the resultant penalty.

The heavens really opened at the start of the second half and Thompson was creating numerous chances from his runs down the inside left channel but Dollingstown were not able to convert any of these chances.

Then on hour mark Moyola lost Kris Magill to two yellow cards. Despite this Moyola almost equalised two minutes later when Connor Gregg shot against the outside of the post

However this was as close as they came and for the remaining 25 minutes it was all Dollingstown with Jordan Gibson who had a solid game in central midfield area had four chances to seal the game but failed to convert any of them . In the final minute Glen Hand thought he had scored the crucial second goal but once again the visiting keeper pulled off a tremendous save to keep the scoreline to just 1-0.

Next week Dollingstown away to Annagh Utd in the Irish Cup at 1.30 kick-off.
