Kids get tips from Bury youth coaches

Five youth football coaches travelled from the Greater Manchester town’s Youth Centre of Excellence and gave the local club’s children the benefit of experience which has produced players such as David Nugent and Colin Kazim-Richards.

Children from the Dromore club turned out in force, over 120 youth footballers from the age of five right up to members of Dromore’s Under 17 squad getting two days of intensive coaching.

The Bury coaching staff put in a huge amount of work with the area’s aspiring footballers, coaching sessions lasting from 10am in the morning until 3pm in the afternoon.

Children took part in numerous hard-working sessions, and were coached on all aspects of the game including passing, positioning, tactics and strategy. Impressively, the children’s attention was kept throughout the day through a mixture of serious coaching and enjoyment, as over 100 smiling faces testified at the end of each day.

Come the end of the second day, exhausted but happy faces all received a Bury FC football from the visiting club – no doubt a few Bury FC tops will be purchased in the local area in the not too distant future!

There was of course a serious side to the event - both Bury FC and Dromore Amateurs Youth are very keen to establish a solid and permanent bond between the two clubs with a view to both enjoying the mutual rewards of Dromore’s youth receiving such a high standard of coaching.

Dromore coach and committee member Keith Scott said, “We’re on record as saying how much we’d love to see some of our players making the grade across the water. This is the start of a real opportunity to see that happening.

“We’re very impressed with the standard of coaching Bury provided, and having spoken with their staff we’re delighted that they too are impressed with our club.

“They spoke very highly of our young players, not just in terms of their footballling abilities but also of their behaviour and desire to listen and learn.

“They think our kids are a credit not just to our club but indeed our whole community, and we would have to agree with that wholeheartedly.”

Dromore and Bury intend to run similar coaching schools in the future, and both are keen to get some of the local players over to Bury’s Gigg Lane to take part in coaching sessions with Bury’s Centre of Excellence youth squads.

Children of all ages, both boys and girls, are always very welcome to go along to the local club’s training sessions and interested parents can approach any coach or committee member for more details. Coaching sessions take place at Dromore’s Ferris Park on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings.
