Dromore Under 14s were crowned winners of the Knock-Out Cup last Saturday with a 1-0 win over Annalong.
Dromore began well on Lurgan Town’s 3G pitch.
Nathan nearly scored on 14 minutes with a neat shot to the back post, but the keeper just held on to it. Dromore had pressed Annalong back into their own half. Without Joel, the back four of Nathan, Patrick, Jonnie and Briggs kept the ball well up in Annalong’s half. Indeed it was Briggs on 31 minutes just shot wide.
Euan, Philip, Morgan and Liam battled in the middle to ensure Annalong didn’t create a single first half chance.
However, they had the wind in the second half and there was more to do for Josh the keeper.
However, it was Dromore who thought they had won a penalty when Karl was brought down. That didn’t stop and soon after, he shot from 35 yards out and hit the post with the keeper well beaten.
Liam was great down the left and put a lot of tackles in and another one late on fed Adam but he shot just wide.
With five minutes to go, Josh supplied a great kick from hands to Karl, against the wind. Karl controlled it well, went passed the defender and from a tight angle, he scored. Everyone celebrated - players, coaches, parents and friends from Dromore.
So with five minutes to go, Annalong had to come forwards. Josh started to have some work to do. He claimed a high ball from a corner and he held onto a free kick which he came out well to claim. Dromore had three chances to rap up the game in the last few minutes.
The final whistle went and the players and fans all went wild.
Well done to Karl for the player of the match, awarded by the ref and linesmen.
Coach Dave Sellwood would like to thank the massive support that came.
On Saturday, Dromore are away to Loughgall. With three league games left, Dromore are in good shape.
