John Fall steps down as Ballymoney United boss

Fall, who took up the post two years ago, had turned United around, bringing in a number of new signings and helping them to climb the Championship Two table.

There was shock amongst players and supporters when the announcement was made on Saturday afternoon following United’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Armagh City.

Chairman Noel Lamont spoke to Times Sport on Monday saying that although John would no longer be first team manager, there would be a place for him at Ballymoney United.

“It was a big shock for everyone, both players and board members. John has done really well this season. We have been doing well in the League, and we had a good run in both the Intermediate Cup and the Irish Cup, but it’s a decision John has made on his own, and we have to respect that.

“Although he will no longer be Manager, there will be a role for him at the Club, and I want to make that very clear.”

A committee meeting took place last night to discuss the way forward. At the time of going to press, Ballymoney United were unable to confirm who would take charge of the team for Saturday’s tie with Wakehurst at Moyola. We’ll bring you more next week.
