Jennings strikes late to earn a draw for Coleraine

The visitors soaked up a lot of pressure early on and took a surprise lead on 40 minutes.

They looked set to claim only the second league win of Eddie Patterson’s tenure before Shane Jennings popped up on 85 minutes to level things up.

The first opening arrived on nine minutes as Ryan McIlmoyle burst up the left flank leaving Murray and Ward in his wake. The full back swung the ball in for Allen but his first time effort never troubled Morris.

The keeper had Colin Nixon to thank seconds later as he could only palm Scullion’s cross on to Allen, but his close range header was cleared off the line by the Glens captain. It looked as though he’d used his hand to scoop it clear, but referee Raymond Crangle waved play on.

The Bannsiders had another effort cleared off the line two minutes later as Scullion’s cross from the left had Morris floundering, but Callacher did well to get back on the line and head it clear.

Callacher made a vital contribution at the other end five minutes before the break to head in Stephen Carson’s corner with what was the visitors first real effort on goal.

Coleraine upped the ante at the start of the second half in a bid to try and get back on level terms. McIlmoyle picked Allen out with another good cross, but the striker couldn’t direct his header on goal.

The left back went close again on the hour mark as Harkin rolled a lovely pass into his path, Morris though got down well to grab his cross-cum-shot at the second attempt.

The Glens had a great opportunity to wrap up the points on 68 minutes as Murray raced through on goal with Coleraine waiting on an offside flag. But the young winger lashed the ball wildly over the bar.

He was almost made to pay within seconds as Owens picked out Hegarty from a free kick, but Morris pulled off a great save to tip the midfielder’s header over the bar.

Substitute Andy Waterworth almost made an immediate impact coming off the bench as he raced clear but his low shot across goal beat the far post.

And it proved vital as Coleraine grabbed an equaliser with five minutes to as Ogilby’s superb pass bisected the Glens defence for the onrushing Shane Jennings to slot under Morris.

The Bannsiders threw everything at the Glens in the dying minutes but in the end they had to settle for a draw.
