Hat-trick of wins for Northend United sides

WITH three out of five Northend United Youth Teams returning to winning ways, pride of place this week again goes to the under-12 team, who in only their fifth competitive match recorded their first, hard fought, victory with a 3-2 win over Upper Ardoyne Youth.

In a dress rehearsal for the forthcoming BEAYIL Cup Final, the Northend U10s were defeated 2-0 by Barn United in a League match.

The U11 team again gave a master class in finishing when they defeated Ballysillan Youth 7-2, while the under-13s returned to competitive action and in the BEAYIL league match beat Ballyclare Colts 6-0.

Northend 7, Ballysillan Youth 2: Northend, with some players missing and others out of position, took some time to settle, but eventually won in a match played under the Showgrounds floodlights in front of a large crowd of parents and spectators.

United took the lead with a good passing move between Zack Herbison and David Kilgore who fed Conor McHugh to shoot past the keeper.

Then Kilgore went on one of his trademark runs, holding off a couple of defenders, before firing in an unstoppable shot from 18 yards. Soon after, McHugh and Kilgore combined to lay on Zack Herbison who gave the keeper no chance.

Northend then switched off and a goal either side of the break brought the score back to 3-2.

The Ballymena side were awarded a penalty when Sam Bennett was pushed over and skipper Zack Herbison made no mistake from the spot.

This settled United and soon after Oliver Boyle raced through the defence to put Northend 5-2 up, followed quickly by Herbison who raced clear from the half way line and blasted it over the advancing keeper for his hat-trick and Northend's sixth.

Northend were awarded another penalty when Eamon Elliott was upended in the box and he picked himself up and dispatched it into the bottom corner. MOM - Conor McHugh

Upper Ardoyne 2, Northend 3: After 16 minutes Northend went one up when Joshua King, Calum Johnston, and Jack Dawson played neat one-twos from midfield into Ardoyne's 18 yard box and forced a defender to score past his own keeper after Leo Morgan smartly dummied the ball.

The joy was short lived as Ardoyne went straight up field and scored, but Northend regained the lead when Harry Kilgore caught the ball with a sweet left foot volley high into the Ardoyne net.

Ardoyne again levlled before the interval and as both teams chased the winner, it went to Northend when Harry Morgan was fed the ball and he cut inside and passed to Eoin Mc McCorkindale who some how managed to place the ball into the far corner. MOM - Eoin Campbell

Northend 1, Cliftonville 5: Cliftonville took the lead at Michelin on 15 minutes and added a second five minutes later when the Northend defence were caught napping.

The second half started off at a frantic pace, however Cliftonville scored a killer blow with their third goal from a breakaway, giving Dylan Kerr no chance in the Northend goal.

Northend rallied after this goal and Ryan McIllroy pulled one back for United with a fierce shot.

This goal gave Northend some heart but the much bigger Cliftonville team finished the match strongly adding two more goals in the final ten minutes.
