Hard working Swifts and Colts teams in action

The Colts were paired against Windmill in a game played in a great spirit with chances a plenty for both teams.

The Colts have been working hard in training on their passing and shooting and it all came together this week when Matthew Cromie opened his account two goals in the opening period.

Ryan Tumilty and captain Darcy Burns formed a solid partnership at the back and some great passing between Jonny McGivern and Adam Cromie set up Jordan Magowan for a well taken goal.

In the best move of the game Darcy Burns received the ball from his brother in goal, passed it to Ryan Tumilty who in turn found impressive new signing Tiernan Maginn.

A quick one two with Matthew Cromie and Maginn played in Burns who scored at the second attempt. It was Tumilty again who played a long ball out of defence to find Magowan in space who did what he does best to complete the scoring.

Coach Stephen Teer said, “The boys really enjoyed the game today and it’s great to see the lads’ hard work in training paying off.”

The Swifts took on a strong Camlough Rovers team on Saturday and turned in one of their best team performances with goalkeeper Darren Sloane and defence of Leon Shimmons, Paul Travers and debutant Alexander Fitzsimmons all outstanding.

Camlough pressured early with Darren Sloane pulling off two terrific reflex saves to keep them at bay. It was the second period when Rathfriland had their best chances with Caolán Teer having a shot cleared off the line and Mark Bronte going close.

However it was Camlough who took the lead with their forward poking home from close range. The local lads dominated the final period with Ben Johnston cutting in from the left and going close on two occasions but they could not get the equaliser they probably deserved.
