Graham hopes to freshen things up at Mossley

“I’m fully aware of how the club just lost out on promotion three years in a row – and then lost around a dozen of their first team squad during the summer,” he told the Times. “It has rubbed off on the players that are still here. We need to bring a few in to freshen things up again. It’s hard to get players at this time of the season, so it might be a case of trying to get a few in, sticking it out this season, and then getting more in during the summer.

“We’ll be looking to get some younger players in, and maybe get some of the players who left back again. And we also need to get them back training; we need to get them fitter.

“Myself and my assistant, Gordon Crawford, know what we’re taking on. We’ve watched Mossley a few times this season, after being asked if we would be interested. We know they’ve lost a lot of players, but there’s still some of the squad there that kept coming so close to gaining promotion – so there are some good players there.”

Campbell himself was a promising player. A Northern Ireland schoolboy and youth international, he went over the water to Wolves, before coming home and playing in the Irish League with Carrick Rangers under Jimmy Brown. He then moved to Bangor where his playing career was cut short by injury while still in his 20s.

Since then, he has been involved with the Old Boys’ League and was a coach at Greenisland FC for seven years.
