DROMARA started the season with a good win at home against Ballynagross Seconds.
With five players from last year’s team now moved up to the seconds, this game saw a number of new players make their competitive debut for Dromara and they didn’t dissappoint.
Playing against a strong wind, Dromara found the early stages hard going with Ballynagross direct play causing a few minor problems. But the defence of McNally, Biggerstaff, Doyle and Belshaw held firm and cut out any half chances that Ballynagross created.
After seeing through the opening 20 minutes, Dromara soon got into their stride with the front three of Hughes, Black and Carmichael starting to link up well.
With 25 minutes played Dromara took the lead with a superb team move. After winning a free kick on the half way, Bernie Doyle played it into Carmichaels feet who slipped it to Jamie Black on the edge of the box. Black then played a delightful one two over the top of the central defender which split open the Ballynagross defence for Roy Carmichael to burst through and fire his shot into the bottom corner.
Dromara went two up five minutes later with another good goal. Good play by Waterson on the right found Carmichael on the edge of the box. He took one touch on the edge of the box before curling a delightful left foot shot into the top corner of the net.
Dromara were now playing some good football and found themselves 3-0 up 10 minutes later. A cross by Hughes on the left was met by the in rushing Stuart Burns who got his head to the cross but couldn’t direct it in. The ball fell to the feet of Kenny Waterson at the back post and he had the simple task of tapping into the net. Things could have got even better Dromara but they had a goal ruled out for offside on the stroke of half time.
The game then became very scrappy with both teams struggling to create however Carmichael and Milligan could have added to the score line just before the end but both were foiled at the last minute.
