Goalie Conor stars for unlucky U14s

From the kick off Lisdrum started the better and asked all the questions with the Juniors having to defend well.

Lisdrum made the early breakthrough when they beat the offside trap on 11 minutes as their striker raced through and finished well to open the scoring.

Town still hadn’t settled and Lisdrum still played the better football, with Town keeper Conor Ward making a string of fantastic saves that any professional keeper would have been proud of to keep the home side in the game.

The Juniors finally got into their passing game, and with good play down the left wing and a fantastic ball by Caleb Schiess found Jake Dennison on the right to lob the keeper and level the scores.

This fired the Juniors up and they got a foothold as they began to test the defensive line of Lisdrum.

Town pressed in search of the next goal but were beaten to it by Lisdrum as they got themselves back in front when they were awarded a penalty which was converted.

This didn’t phase the Juniors as they came right back at Lisdrum and leveled the scores again when Jordan Walker unselfishly played in Caleb Schiess who expertly rounded the keeper, dropped the shoulder before rounding his marker and slotting the ball into the empty net to score the goal of match. On the stroke of half time however, the Juniors conceded harshly to leave the score 3-2 at the break.

The second half began and the Juniors started to a flyer pushing Lisdrum right back into their own half.

The visitors didn’t lie down and that produced a brilliant spectacle for everyone watching. As the locals pressed at one end for an equaliser, goalkeeper Conor Ward kept the Juniors in the game at the other end with a string of top saves in an inspired performance.

The Juniors pulled out all the stops and every man in a red shirt gave 200 per cent and were unlucky not to get their goal with one cleared off the line and a few chances missing the net by inches.

The game was all but over as Lisdrum sealed the points with a late goal on 34 minutes. This weeks man of the match was keeper Conor Ward for a goalkeeping master class in an inspired performance.
