Gers Reserves seen off by Hanover in the last 16

Banbridge Rangers Reserves lost out 4-2 to a strong Hanover Reserves in the last 16 of the Wilmor Johnston Cup at Cheney Park on Saturday.

Reserve Team coach Glenn Moffett made his first competitive start in over 18 months and showed that when you have a knack of scoring goals it doesn’t matter what age you are as he opened the scoring in the fifth minute with deft touch to control and a ruthless finish.

Hanover defender Stephen Woods then ran from his own before scoring from 35 yards for the equaliser

Hanover went ahead through another long range effort but within three minutes, it was 2-2 as Dean Gordon converted a one-on-one into the bottom corner.

On the hour mark Hanover went in front when a deep cross saw both Parkes and Cairns compete for the same ball and the lack of communication was punished with a low shot drilled in at the back post.

Gordon and Moffett both had chances to equaliser and McAllister hit the post.

And seconds after the Gers had a penalty appeal of their own waved away, Hanover’s Stewart Long went down for a spot kick which was dispatched to seal the result.
