Freddie’s delighted as Reserves get off to a flyer

Speaking after last Wednesday night’s victory over Richhill Reserves, he said: “It was a brilliant team performance; there was 100 per cent commitment from everyone.

“Steven Hendron and Kris Heron linked well together in attack and the back four was very solid.”

The clash at Scarva Park was goalless at the half-time interval, with the two sides evenly matched and chances thin on the ground.

Steven Hendron did manage to get behind the visitors’ defence but the Richhill goalkeeper saved well to deny him.

The hosts found another gear in the second half and deservedly took the lead. Dean Smyth produced a wonderful cross with the outside of his foot and central midfielder William Morrison sent a strong header soaring over the helpless keeper into the back of the net.

The second goal arrived shortly afterwards. Hendron exchanged passes with Kris Heron and Heron fired the ball unerringly into the bottom corner of the Richhill net.

Heron almost grabbed a second when he was sent free by a precise through ball from Noel Hamilton. Only an unfortunate deflection sent the ball crashing against the post instead of into the back of the net.

The visitors searched for a route back into the game but Scarva’s rearguard, marshalled superbly by Ernie Hammond and Brian Topley, stood firm.
