Firsts in control against AFC

FROM the first whistle the home side were on the attack in this all action game.

With only 60 seconds on the clock Moore played a great ball out to the right to Ervine who cut inside and forced a great save, round the post, from the AFC keeper.

Gareth Bingham swung in the resulting corner, and as the clearing header came back out, he fired straight back in only to see the keeper make a good catch.

The opening 20 minutes saw wave after wave of attack from Slane with Whitten, G. Bingham, N Bingham and Moore pulling the strings.

AFC started to settle down playing some good balls up to their number ten but Cochrane and Boyd were cool in defence.

On 26 minutes the pressure told when Ervine picked the ball up deep, threaded a pinpoint pass through to Whitten who coolly slid the ball past the advancing keeper.

Slane took a well deserved lead into the halftime break.

The second half was ‘as you were with Slane making the running, and AFC hitting on the counter attack.

A few good moves by AFC were neatly snuffed out by the Slane back four, who were well marshalled by Cochrane.

AFC fired a couple of shots high over the crossbar, while Ervine, Whitten, G Bingham, Adair and Gibson had chances to put the result beyond doubt for Slane.

The 1-0 final score didn’t truly reflect the game, which saw a young energetic Slane team play some neat entertaining football.

Man of the match was J Whitten.
