Feast of goals for spectators

A FEAST of goals on an afternoon of drama made for captivating viewing for spectators.

Scarva manager Mo Brown would have preferred it if his side had found a more sedate route to their eventual victory, however.

Rangers went into Saturday’s league clash as favourites but despite creating some promising early opportunities they found themselves trailing by two goals after a quarter of an hour.

David Dillon launched the comeback with an audacious back heel that outfoxed the keeper and made its way into the home side’s net.

With half time approaching Greg Douglas was hauled down inside the City penalty area and dusted himself down before rifling the spot kick into the net to leave the sides all square at the interval.

Brown made a tactical change at half time that freed midfielder Neil Anderson to have a greater influence further up the pitch in the second half.

Dean McCammon put his side ahead for the first time in the game with a clinical finish and Greg Douglas gave Rangers a two goal cushion.

Hosts Craigavon City pegged them back to 4-3 before McCammon weighed in with his second goal of the game, a fine left footed strike that the home keeper was unable to stop.

Once again the hosts reduced the arrears to a single goal, leaving Scarva to face an anxious finale but they held on to secure this important league win.

Best for Scarva Rangers – goalscorers Dean McCammon and Greg Douglas were the key architects of this high scoring victory.

Scarva’s reserve side lost 1-0 to Portadown BBOB Reserves in the O’Hara Cup on Saturday. An under strength side played with great character against opponents from the division above them and were unlucky not to force extra time despite being reduced to 10 men for most of the second half. Best for the reserves was Noel Hamilton and Phillip Magill.
