Failure to take chances costs Dromore U18s

The game got underway in glorious conditions with the pitch in perfect order and the sun shinning.

It was an edgy start from both sides as they hadn’t faced each other before and didn’t know what to expect.

The first 10 minutes were tight although Dromore should have went a goal to the good when striker neill was played through but he shot tamely at the keeper when Hunt was standing unmarked and would have had a tap in.

Dromore were gaining control and deservedly went in front when Hunts pace took him clear of the defence and he drilled his shot past the keeper. Unfortunately it was his last action of the game as the strike aggravated an old ankle injury. He was duly replaced by Mullholland.

Dromore continued to dominate and Rockview were getting frustrated and the referee issued yellow cards for dissent.

This seem to urge them back into the game and from then to the half they not only equalised but got on top of the play.

Stern words from the Dromore management saw the Amateurs come out the second half and take the game to Rockview. Both teams had chances with McKinstry powering in a great effort only to see the keeper make a great save. At the other end Mallon, pushed one round the post.

Rockview went on to get the winner when a Dromore striker surrendered the ball too easily and the ball was played over the top for the winger to run onto to and lash a superb shot into the top corner from 30 yards, a goal good enough to win any game.

Dromore did rally and thought all the pressure had paid off when a 20 yard free kick from Campbell crashed of the bar and down onto the line but the keeper scrambled it away.

For the second time in succession the Dromore team were left numbed as how they hadn’t taken anything from the game. Next week they travel to high flyers Annagh Utd.
