(after extra time)

DROMORE advanced to the final of the league cup with a well deserved victory over Limavady Ladies. The locals started off as the better of the two sides with a number of chances coming their way but were unable to turn their pressure into the vital first goal.

Limavady took the lead after 18 minutes against the run of play as they caught Dromore on the break and after a neat one-two between their strikers it was finished off with a chip over the onrushing Michelle Stephens.

Dromore continued to be the better side despite falling behind and were denied an equaliser through a mixture of poor finishing and good goalkeeping before half time.

In the second half Dromore continued their pressure and were finally rewarded for their exploits after a through ball released Amanda Morton who finished whilst one-on-one with the keeper.

Despite having a number of opportunities to take the lead Dromore failed to capitalise on their dominance and only for a great save by Michelle Stephens could have found themselves behind.

Dromore managed to score a second with only minutes of the match remaining only for the referee to award a free kick for a foul on the goalkeeper. It was going to take extra time to decide the match and Dromore started it in spectacular fashion.

Captain Tracy Orr was playing in the centre of midfield. As she picked the ball up 35 yards from goal she unleashed a spectacular effort into the top corner which left the keeper stranded just two minutes into extra time.

Dromore weren’t finished there as Amanda Morton got her second of the game minutes later, this time with her head.

Limavady were not able to mount a comeback and Dromore advanced to the final of the league cup where they will face runaway league winners Cliftonville.

Dromore face Derry City in their final league game at home on Wednesday August 8 and a win would guarantee them at least fifth place in the league.
