Scarva Rangers concluded the 2015/16 league campaign on a winning note.

A comfortable victory away to Lurgan BBOB was their seventh league win of the season.

The local side were in little realistic danger of relegation before the game kicked off but this polished performance banished the prospect entirely.

The villagers led 2-0 at the half-time interval in last Tuesday night’s encounter at Kernan Park.

Rod Douglas gave his side the lead with a commanding header from a corner and Sam Boyd then went close to doubling the advantage for Scarva with a volley from the edge of the penalty area that flashed wide of the right hand post.

It was Scarva’s turn to defend as Lurgan BBOB went on the attack.

Goalkeeper Stuart Wilson pushed a free kick around his post and Rod Douglas defended well from successive corners to keep Rangers’ lead intact.

Greg Douglas then sent Sam Boyd clear on goal and he finished clinically to provide his side with a two goal lead.

After the interval Derek Patton made a super covering tackle as he chased a ball over the top of the Scarva defence and goalkeeper Wilson mopped up the loose ball.

The hosts then struck the Scarva crossbar with a headed effort while at the other end an Alex Hammond volley flew just wide.

Derek Patton found Gregory Douglas with a lofted pass over the top of the Lurgan BBOB defence.

Douglas saw the goalkeeper advancing and sent an intelligent lob soaring over his head and into the back of the net to give Scarva a 3-0 lead.

Late on Sam Boyd had an opportunity to make it 4-0 but his shot went wide of the target.

Both sides found themselves reduced to ten men courtesy of separate incidents in the final stages of the game.

Jeff Patton then made a second half appearance to ensure he joins the select band of players who have represented Scarva Rangers in their teens, 20s, 30s and 40s.

Best for Scarva Rangers – Gregory Douglas and the defensive unit that ensured the visitors ended the game with a clean sheet.
