Double celebration for Scarva as both firsts and reserves win

Mo Brown’s first team sailed through their first round tie in the Marshall Cup with a convincing 2-0 victory over Stranmillis.

Dean McCammon capitalised on some neat footwork from David Dillon to put his side 1-0 ahead at the interval.

Scarva striker McCammon completed his brace in the closing stages to confirm Scarva’s place in the next round.
If the first team’s win was convincing, the reserve team’s victory was nothing short of comprehensive.

They knocked beleaguered opponents Broomhedge Reserves for six. William Morrison’s side footed finish opened the floodgates and Dean Smyth powerfully headed home an enticing Philip Magill free kick to make it 2-0.

Steven Hendron put the game more or less beyond the visitors’ reach before half time. A quick throw in from Morrison was flicked on by Smyth and Hendron finished clinically.

There was more misery to come for Broomhedge Reserves before the half-time whistle sounded, however. An incisive move down Scarva’s right wing created an opportunity for Wayne Jordan to deliver a pinpoint cross that was fired home by Kris Heron.

Jordan also played a key role in Scarva’s fifth goal of the afternoon, winning a penalty after some tricky footwork bamboozled his opponent. The spot kick was confidently dispatched by Dean Smyth.

Morrison lashed a header against the crossbar after connecting with another dangerous Philip Magill free kick but it was only a temporary reprieve for the shell-shocked visitors.

A short time later a Broomhedge defender attempted to clear the ball but it rebounded off Heron into the path of Hendron who continued his scintillating early season goal scoring form by making it 6-0 to the jubilant hosts.
