Doogan leads Town U13s to impressive victory

Town Juniors U13s got back to winning ways on Saturday with a hard fought 3-1 victory over Tandragee Rovers in the League Cup.

Both teams cancelled each other out in the early exchanges with neither goalkeeper forced into real action.

The home side gained a foothold, pressing forward but a Shea Winters shot that was saved comfortably was really the only effort that came close to a goal.

Town’s Cameron Frizell was causing all sorts of problems up front and the Juniors came close to opening their account again when Owen Vennard was unlucky not to steer home a dangerous William Doogan cross.

The match came alive in the second half when early pressure paid off for Town. Shea Winters played Owen Vennard down the left flank and he cut in leaving his marker in his trail and unleashed a fierce shot that may have taken a slight deflection before flying into the top corner.

The visitors replied five minutes later when they broke away for the equaliser but Town regrouped and took the lead again when Ben Johnston was upended just outside the box. Free kick specialist Cameron Sands blasted home from 30 yards to make it 2-1.

The Juniors had to survive a Tandragee onslaught but a defensive masterclass from Henry Doogan kept the door shut with last ditch tackles and keeper Jonathon Cartmill made a couple of fine saves.

With 10 minutes left, Town sealed their win from the boot of ace marksman William Doogan after Cameron Frizell found him in a crowded penalty box and he cooly slotted into the corner.

MOTM was Henry Doogan who was solid at the back.
