Derby win for U13s

TOWN Juniors U13s faced Gilford Cursaders in their second meeting this season.

Banbridge picked up where they left off last week after their 5-2 win over Seagoe, and started the match on the front foot playing some good pass and move football which looked promising in the opening minutes.

The Juniors created a flurry of chances early in the game, with great play down the right wing between Josh Dennison and his brother Jake. Town were denied an opener by the Gilford keeper when he produced two fantastic point blank saves.

The locals continued to press in search of the opening goal, and began to play all the football in the Gilford half.

As Gilford attempted to launch a few counter attacks the Banbridge defence along with reserve keeper Michael Rafferty snuffed out any danger that came their way as Town took full control of the game.

As the first half progressed Banbridge saw a few chances go begging, but on 24 minutes they took the lead when a shot on goal from Josh Dennison was helped over the line by Lee Ward who applied the finishing touch.

Town made a triple substitution at the start of the second half and put pressure on Gilford to try and put the game to bed.

This pressure paid off after 10 minutes into the half when the in form winger Jake Dennison broke through, dribbled from his own half and shot low and hard to finish well to cap off a brilliant move and make it 2-0.

With Banbridge in a confident and relaxed mood they snatched a third proving to be the goal of the match when Josh Dennison made his second assist by chipping a high through ball for Conor Ward to hit a superb right footed volley into the top corner of the net giving Town a 3-0 lead.

Banbridge continued to pile on the pressure with Jordan Walker pulling all the strings and dominating midfield, well assisted by Luke Vint on the left wing.

Gilford scored a late consolation as Town were caught high up the pitch.

Special word of thanks to Michael Rafferty for an excellent display between the posts. This weeks man of the match was Jake Dennison for an outstanding display on the right wing.
