Delight as Under 14’s overcome Celtic Boys in tough encounter
Celtic Boys U14s 2
Dromore Amateurs U14s 3
Dromore knew they were going to be in for a tough game as Celtic Boys had previously beaten them in the league earlier in the season, and with very wet conditions to contend with also, it was a case of every player being asked to stand up and be counted.
Dromore started the first half really well and after some sustained pressure they were awarded a penalty when Odhran Crozier was brought down in the box.
Dromore’s in-form penalty taker Ryan Woods stepped up to take the penalty and drilled the ball home fiercely giving the Celtic Boys keeper the slimmest of chances to save it.
Celtic Boys were struggling to cope with Dromore’s fine attacking play and it was Odhran Crozier who scored the second goal for Dromore. He sped passed the Celtic defenders to find himself through on goal but he had taken the ball to the right side of the penalty box leaving himself the tightest of angles to find the goal. He didn’t disappoint as he dispatched the ball high into the net and wheeled round to celebrate with the many parents that had travelled to watch the game.
Dromore found themselves 3-0 up early in the second half after Ryan Woods found space on the edge of the box and he fired the ball hard and low to the keeper’s left leaving him stranded to the spot. Meanwhile, Ryan Gallagher missed from close range.
With the game coming to an end Celtic Boys got the encouragement they needed when they scored two goals to leave the final five minutes of the match a nervous finish for Dromore’s defenders.
The joy at the final whistle from all the players showed how important this win was to maintaining their league position and gives the group another confidence booster for the weeks ahead.
Not really a day where one individual could take the plaudits for man of the match but the whole team could as it was a very hard earned win and took everyone to contribute.
