David sets the ‘Barr’ for the Under 16’s

Banbridge Rangers U16s warmed up for their Cup Final on Saturday with a 3-1 win over their Semi Final opponents Markethill Swifts.

The home team made a good start to the match and put Rangers under plenty of pressure early on and soon went ahead when a well worked moved played in their striker who finished into the far corner past keeper Robinson.

Markethill nearly went 2-0 ahead and this was the wake up call that the Rangers players needed who soon picked up their game and went of the offensive.

Rangers applied plenty of pressure to the Markethill defence and got a number of corners but were unable to make them count. With the Markethill defence now tiring from the work they were doing, striker David Barr was able to take advantage. A neat ball was played through from Ryan Woods into the path of David, who remained composed and finished into the bottom corner. With the Markethill team now rattled, Rangers piled on the pressure before half time and took the lead minutes later when David Barr scored again, getting his 10th of the season. This time Dean McIlvena provided the assist for David who made a run between the two centre backs and lobbed the keeper.

The second half started much the same as the first finished with Rangers controlling possession and creating the better chances. Both wide me for Rangers, Matthew Smylie and Jason Treanor, was causing plenty of problems for the Markethill defence with their pace and trickery and it was a combination of the two that provided the third goal.

Jason took on two players down the right, skipping past both before playing the ball inside to David Barr who crossed the ball to the back post perfectly into the path of Matthew Smylie who blasted the ball into the back of the net.

Man of the Match goes to David Barr who had a very productive game with two goals and one assist.
