And why not? The left-winger had just pulled out a massive result for his ailing side.

“David really shone on Saturday,” said a beaming boss.

“He did well at Ballymoney and was even better against Glebe. He got a few chances inside the box and finished them off really well. “He’s a very calm and cool customer and tucked the first one away very impressively before showing great composure with the other two in the second half.

“It was a great way to finish off your first hat-trick and he showed just what we have been needing lately - somebody who can finish off the chances when they come.”

Gray is one of several teenage players to step up to the first team and Watson was keen to stress what an integral part of the dressing room the Waringstown lad has become.

“He’s a big part of what we want to do here,” said the manager.

“He has great potential but we’ve known that since he came into the team last season. From then it was just a case of managing him and giving him experience. He has the ability but he also has the temperament and the attitude. He’s a great lad and is very well respected throughout the team and the club. His family should be very proud of him.

“Everyone was absolutely delighted for him on Saturday. He can only get better and hopefully he is willing to do that with us alongside the other young players coming up.

“Recently we had Jordan Hayes coming in and scoring on his debut as well. It’s great to have players like that coming up through the club. They’re being well looked after and well coached in the Juniors and the Reserves.”
