Competitive clash for Juniors’ U17s

Town Juniors Under-17s found themselves in a real competitive match for the opening game of the new season.

Donegal Celtic began strongest immediately putting Banbridge under pressure but they absorbed it well and gradually played their way into the contest.

Ryan Williamson was unlucky when his close range shot was blocked on the line after 15 minutes and a few minutes later Declan Loy headed a Brian Johnston free kick down to David Gray who finished well from close range to put Banbridge ahead.

Declan Loy was unlucky not to get a second when his long range shot hit the crossbar.

The remainder of the half was played in torrential rain but Banbridge defended bravely and with the help of two excellent saves from keeper William Dunlop kept a clean sheet.

In the second half Donegal Celtic threw everything at Banbridge and were rewarded after 20 minutes with an equalising header from a corner.

Five minutes later they went ahead with some clever football in the Banbridge box resulting in a close range shot.

Town fought back and almost equalised when Dylan Martin played a hard low cross in from the right to Ryan Williamson whose deft flick to the near post was superbly saved by the keeper.

This was a very promising start to the season for Banbridge and they were unlucky not to get at least a point from the game.
